SACE Board publishes letter-grade distribution. The conversion to a scaled score for ATAR purposes is done by SATAC internally via logistic scaling, and is not published per-subject. We show the grade data here because it is the most detailed officially-published per-subject information SACE makes available for the 2024 cohort.

How English as an Additional Language performed in 2024
English as an Additional Language had a high-performing 2024 cohort: 37% of students achieved an A-range result (A+, A, or A-). This is well above the typical Stage 2 subject. The candidature for this subject is academically strong on average.
For ATAR planning purposes, the key data is not the grade distribution but the scaled-score distribution produced by SATAC's logistic scaling. That is unfortunately not published per-subject — SATAC publishes only the aggregate-to-ATAR conversion table (see our SA ATAR page). The grade distribution above shows the subject's achievement profile, which is one input to but not the same thing as scaling pattern.

What this means in practice
- SACE Stage 2 grades feed into SATAC's logistic scaling. A given A-range result in this subject may be worth a different scaled score than an A-range result in another subject — but SATAC does not publish the conversion table.
- Strong students should not pick subjects based on grade distribution alone. A student in the A range of English as an Additional Language will get a strong scaled score; that's the consistent thing across all subjects.
- For cross-state comparisons, the closest analogue to this data is the NSW/VIC/QLD/WA per-subject scaling tables, but the units are different (grades vs scaled scores). Direct comparison is not meaningful without SATAC's internal conversion.
Caveats
- This is 2024 data only. SACE Board publishes annually after the end of each academic year.
- Subjects with fewer than 30 students per year are not included on this site (small-cohort distributions are unstable).
- The "N" (not graded) count includes students who did not complete the assessment requirements — it is not a failure mark in the academic sense; it is a procedural status.
